MCC Grad Named Senior of the Year<\/strong><\/p>\n

Middlesex County College Grad Named Senior of the Year at NJIT Engineering College<\/strong><\/p>\n

Walter Vittitoe, a 2009 graduate of Middlesex County College, was named Senior of the Year by the Newark College of Engineering, which is a division of NJIT. He was also named Outstanding Senior in his major, Mechanical Engineering Technology.<\/p>\n

Mr. Vittitoe, 28, worked as a machinist before starting NJIT.<\/p>\n

\u201cWalter was a hard working student, committed to completing all his assignments in an exceptional manner,\u201d said Middlesex Professor Craig Stickler. \u201cHe had been out in the work world for several years and decided that he wanted to go further than his high school diploma was going to take him. He believes strongly in the traditional values of honesty and hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n

While working, he took classes at Middlesex, majoring in Mechanical Engineering Technology. He earned an associate\u2019s degree from Middlesex and then transferred to NJIT. After graduation, he hopes to work in the field of robotics.<\/p>\n

Thom Sabol, chair of the Department of Engineering Technologies at Middlesex, said he wasn\u2019t surprised by Mr. Vittitoe\u2019s success.<\/p>\n

\u201cWalter is an outstanding student and we are very proud of his accomplishments,\u201d Professor Sabol said.<\/p>\n

Mr. Vittitoe\u2019s left his machinist job to focus on schoolwork, so his parents are helping him financially.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to getting my degree and working, so I can pay my parents back and replenish their savings,\u201d he said. \u201cThey are approaching retirement, which is a driving factor for my success. I owe them my education because they paid for it. If they hadn\u2019t done that, I wouldn\u2019t be at NJIT.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Vittitoe is the second Middlesex graduate in three years to earn Senior of the Year honors from NJIT. Owen Fitzgerald won this award in 2008.<\/p>\n

Middlesex County College Grad Honored by NJIT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tia Montalto (Old Bridge), who graduated in 2010 from Middlesex County College, was named
\nthe 2012 Outstanding Senior in the Department of Engineering Technology at the Newark
\nCollege of Engineering, which is a division of the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The two
\nschools have a strong transfer agreement and she transferred to NJIT after graduating from
\nMiddlesex. She will graduate from NJIT in December of 2012.<\/p>\n

\u201cI loved Middlesex,\u201d she said. \u201cThe professors were excellent and always willing to help \u2013 they\u2019d
\nwork with you until you understood the material. I value my education at Middlesex and I was\u00a0very well prepared for NJIT; if I had started at NJIT, I don\u2019t think I would have done as well.\u201d<\/p>\n

This summer, Ms. Montalto has an internship at the AMETEK Materials Analysis Division in
\nMahwah as a Manufacturing Engineer. The company makes spectrometers for scientists. She\u2019s
\nhoping for a career in mechanical engineering or aerospace engineering in design or manufacturing.<\/p>\n

\u201cI really like thermodynamics and fluid mechanics,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Perhaps fueled by family \u2013 her father was a mechanic who owned an auto parts store \u2013 Ms.
\nMontalto\u2019s long-range goals include designing engines for cars.<\/p>\n

\u201cElectrical engines are going to be prevalent in the future,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019d like to be developing
\nthe next wave of engines.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also plans to take more classes.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m dedicated to learning,\u201d she said. \u201cI\u2019d like to come back to Middlesex for more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms. Montalto is the third Middlesex graduate in four years to earn Senior of the Year honors
\nfrom NJIT. Owen Fitzgerald \u201906 received this award in 2008 and Walter Vittitoe \u201909 won it in
\n2011.<\/p>\n

\"KeithDavis\"<\/a>Middlesex County College Grad Honored by NJIT<\/strong><\/p>\n

Keith Davis, who graduated in 2011 from Middlesex County College, was named the 2013\u00a0Outstanding Senior in the Department of Engineering Technology at the Newark College of Engineering, which is a division of the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The two\u00a0schools have a strong transfer agreement and he transferred to NJIT after graduating with high\u00a0honors from Middlesex.<\/p>\n

Davis came to Middlesex as an adult student following work as a machine operator for a\u00a0concrete preparation service and an asbestos abatement company. His work with the former\u00a0got him interested in engineering and construction.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a very good experience at MCC,\u201d he said. \u201cThe professors were knowledgeable and
\napproachable, and it prepared me very well for NJIT. I made lots of friends, some of whom
\ntransferred with me to NJIT.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis now works as an estimator for a company that does site work and paving. He anticipates\u00a0taking the certification exam to become Professional Engineer.<\/p>\n

Thomas Sabol, chair of the Department of Engineering Technologies, said the relationship
\nbetween Middlesex and NJIT makes transferring easy.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re very proud of Keith,\u201d Professor Sabol said. \u201cHe was an outstanding student at MCC and
\nit is great to see he has continued his excellent work at NJIT.\u201d<\/p>\n

Davis is the fourth Middlesex graduate in six years to earn Senior of the Year honors from NJIT.
\nOwen Fitzgerald \u201906 received this award in 2008;\u00a0Walter Vittitoe \u201909 won it in 2011; and Tia Montalto ’10 in 2012.<\/p>\n
