The Medical Technology Department is accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS *). It offers an Associate Degree in Applied Science (A.A.S.)which prepares the student for a career as a medical laboratory technician.

The Middlesex County College Medical Laboratory/Clinical Laboratory Technician program prepares students to enter a growing job market in clinical testing. Students are working in areas such as hospital laboratories, research companies, private laboratories, and doctors’ offices.

After completion of the required course work at Middlesex County College, which includes practical experience, students are eligible to take a certification exam either through the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or the National Certification Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel (NCA). The American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Registry (BOR) and the National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) signed an agreement forming a single certification agency for medical laboratory professionals on July 21, 2009. The agency will be called the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC), and the agreement is effective at the end of October. As more information becomes available about this change it will be posted.
The MLT Program’s Graduate Certificate Pass Rate for the graduating classes for 2012. 2013, and 2014 is 84.2%
The MLT Program’s three year graduation rate percentage for students who start the final half of the program with the first clinical course is 84%
The MLT Program’s three year average placement rate for students who are finding jobs in the field (or a closely related field) is 100%
This accredited program offers academic and clinical training to qualified students who wish to pursue a laboratory career and meet the following entrance requirements:
A minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 must be maintained before the practicum begins. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the hospital practicum site. The Medical Laboratory Technician Program’s “Technical Standards” represent the essential non-academic requirements of the program that students must master to participate successfully in the program and become employable. MLT Program Mission: The Medical Laboratory Technology program’s mission is to prepare qualified students as clinical laboratory technicians to service the needs of the health care testing laboratories in our community.
MLT Program Goal: Serve all interested students with completed entrance pre-requisites who wish to pursue a career in Medical Laboratory Technology, with or without the intention of completing a bachelor’s degree.
