Step 1: Create a Federal Student Aid ID

If you are a dependent student, both you and your parent must apply for a FSA User ID. This is a secure user ID code that you use to ‘sign’ the FAFSA online. Apply for your FSA User ID at www.fsaid.ed.gov.

If you are an independent student, you will need to provide parental information on the FAFSA. You will report your own information and your spouse’s information if married.
