Two outstanding professors at MCC were recently honored: Maya Aloni, in the History and Social Science Department, was selected as the 2012 Faculty Scholar; and Claire Condie, of the Natural Sciences Department, received the 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award.<\/p>\n
Dr. Aloni, who teaches psychology, has published numerous journal articles and has led presentations at conferences and on campus. She integrates this scholarship into the classroom, committee work, and as the advisor to Psi Beta, the national honor society in psychology. Along with other scholars, Dr. Aloni published five research articles in prestigious journals including the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and Psychological Science. Her research is focused on human relationships, social cognition and other social psychological concepts.<\/p>\n
Christine Harrington, director of the College\u2019s Center for the Enrichment of Learning and Teaching (CELT) and the chairperson of the selection committee, was familiar with Dr. Aloni\u2019s work before she came to Middlesex in 2010.<\/p>\n
\u201cSeveral years ago, one of my students was writing a research paper and used a journal article Maya wrote on the psychology of love,\u201d Dr. Harrington said. \u201cIt was a very impressive article and very helpful to the student.\u201d<\/p>\n
She said Dr. Aloni\u2019s research is very positive for the College, the department and for the students.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe uses her scholarly work in the classroom,\u201d Dr. Harrington said. \u201cHer scholarly work makes her a better teacher.\u201d<\/p>\n
Professor Condie, a faculty member in the Natural Sciences Department, inspires her students to learn.<\/p>\n
She is extremely committed to the success of her students and engages in numerous activities to support student learning. She created a geoscience laboratory and a rain garden near Main Hall to provide students with an opportunity to go back billions of years in time to understand New Jersey\u2019s geological history, pollution and sustainability.<\/p>\n
