The program mixes sessions on writing skills with practical tips on selling what you have written. There is also a spoken word contest; the winner will receive $100. \u201cThis is a wonderful opportunity to spend the day with published writers and learn their secrets,\u201d said Professor Melissa Edwards, who is coordinating the program.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mccdemosite1.devsiteurl.com\/mcc-publications\/april-2013\/leadership-workshop-provides-a-powerful-lesson-and-some-fun\/\">Leadership Workshop Provides a Powerful Lesson \u2013 and Some Fun<\/a><br \/>\nForget solar, gas or electric \u2013 the most powerful form of energy was on display in the MCC College Center in March as 50 students from all over the campus participated in a leadership workshop. They were excited, energetic and dynamic. Called the Joint Leadership Collaborative, the program is designed to develop leadership skills among students, and to help them learn that no matter what level they are in an organization, they can be leaders.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mccdemosite1.devsiteurl.com\/mcc-publications\/april-2013\/prof-translates-masterpiece-meets-a-fan-of-italian-literature\/\">Prof Translates Masterpiece; Meets a Fan of Italian Literature<\/a><br \/>\nSanti Buscemi, professor of English, has translated a second book by Luigi Capuana, \u201cThe Marquis of Roccaverdina\u201d (1903).\u00a0 \u201cIn my view it is his masterpiece,\u201d Professor Buscemi said. \u201cIt is the story of a wealthy marquis in Sicily in the late 19th century. He has an affair with a servant woman with whom he is madly in love, but he is convinced by his family that he cannot marry her because of their class differences. He comes up with an idea to have the foreman of his estate marry her, but they have to live together as brother and sister \u2013 not as husband and wife.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mccdemosite1.devsiteurl.com\/mcc-publications\/april-2013\/notables\/\">Notables<\/a><br \/>\nShirley Wachtel, professor of English, read from her book, \u201cMy Mother\u2019s Shoes,\u201d at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, North Carolina over spring break. Nearly 600 students in at Catawba are reading the book and she spoke to more than 500 during her presentations. She toured the school\u2019s Holocaust Center and viewed projects by students concerning the book and the Holocaust.\u00a0 Published in 2011, \u201cMy Mother\u2019s Shoes\u201d recounts the poignant story of the author\u2019s mother, a Holocaust survivor, and the challenges she had to face in her homeland and later as a wife and mother living in the United States.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/mccdemosite1.devsiteurl.com\/mcc-publications\/april-2013\/restaurant-food-tasting-offered-april-10\/\">Restaurant Food Tasting Offered April 10<\/a><br \/>\nRestaurants from all over the area will be offering samples of their best dishes at the Middlesex County College Alumni Association food tasting on Wednesday, April 10.
